Owner/Pet Contract: A Template for Collars and Care

Pet play runs on affection and routine, so this contract reads a lot like a very flirtatious set of care instructions. It’s for an owner and a pet, both adults, who want to write down what the persona means, how long it lasts, and how to step out of it. There’s one practical point you shouldn’t skip: if your pet won’t be using words, you need a stop signal that works without them. Fill it in with the contract generator if that’s easier.

The template

The care agreement of pet's name, pet, and owner's name, owner

In effect from start date. We’re two consenting adults having a good time. This isn’t a legal document, and pet's name is a person first, whatever name they answer to at home.

The persona

When pet's name is in persona, we’ll use the name we picked together. Persona time starts when: your rules

It ends when either of us says so, and always before anything serious needs to be discussed. Decisions about money, health, or our relationship are made by two people out of persona.

The collar

The collar means we’re playing, and that pet's name belongs to this dynamic for as long as they choose to. It comes off whenever pet's name wants it off, no questions asked. We’ll agree in advance where it’s worn, so neither of us has to explain it to a coworker.

What the owner looks after

owner's name is responsible for the routine, for attention, and for rewards. That means keeping an eye on comfort, breaks, food and water, and whether pet's name is still having fun. An owner who gets bored or distracted says so, rather than leaving a pet waiting.

What the pet looks after

pet's name agrees to play with enthusiasm and to be honest. Mischief is welcome, within reason. If something aches, gets dull, or feels bad, pet's name steps out of persona long enough to say so.

Limits

Off the table: your hard limits

Only after talking about it first: your soft limits

Stop signals

Spoken: your safeword stops everything, and your slow-down word means slow down. Without words, we’ll use this signal, agreed and practiced beforehand: three taps on owner's name’s arm or on the floor means stop. Any signal ends persona immediately.

After playtime

Coming back takes a moment. We’ll take time for: your aftercare.

Check-ups and goodbye

We’ll review this agreement on review date. Either of us can end it at any time, for any reason, by saying so, and the collar goes in a drawer with no hard feelings.

Signed with love and possibly a paw print, owner's name and pet's name, on start date.
