Primal prey
There’s a second right before you start running. You’ve agreed on the rooms, the rules, and the signal that ends it. Your partner is across the hall doing a terrible job of looking casual. Your pulse is up, you’re trying hard not to laugh, and then one of you moves.
If that second sounds like the best part of your week, the kink world has a name for you: primal prey.
What the word covers
Primal play is the physical, mostly wordless end of kink. The prey is the one being chased, by choice. You pick the partner, you help pick the ground, and you want to be caught, ideally after making them earn it.
You might recognize this
When a partner pretends to come after you in the kitchen, you run, you laugh, and you run a bit slower on purpose. You also know precisely who you would and wouldn’t play this with, because the game only works with deep trust in the person behind you.
A high score here on the test usually travels with an appetite for physical play.
Set the terms before anyone runs
The person being chased sets the terms. Agree on where the game can go, which rooms are in and which are out, what kind of contact is welcome, how rough counts as too rough, and whether marks are fine. Say it all out loud beforehand, while you’re both calm and dressed.
You’ll also need a stop signal that works at full speed. A word you’d never shout by accident is a good start, and the guide to safe words has more ideas, plus a physical signal such as a double tap on your partner’s arm for the moments when you’re laughing too hard to talk. When either signal comes, everything stops at once.
The real hazards are boring: coffee tables, stairs, rugs, socks on hardwood. Clear the furniture, take off jewelry, trim nails, and keep the first few rounds short and indoors. If you have a bad knee, a back problem, or any doubt about what your body can take, ask a doctor before you start sprinting around the living room.
A hard chase can leave you buzzing and then oddly flat an hour later, so plan for it. Water and some time being ordinary together help, and the aftercare guide covers the rest.
Saying “chase me” out loud
Bring it up away from the bedroom, with something concrete to point to: a scene in a movie, a bit of play-wrestling you both enjoyed, a fantasy you’ve been meaning to mention. Say what excites you and what you’d keep off the table, then ask how the chase would feel from their side.
You’re looking for an excited yes. “Sure, if you want” is a reason to keep talking and wait.
If a chase at home is a bigger step than you want tonight, roleplay cams are a gentler way to play with the idea. Affiliate link.
Who’s on the other end
The primal hunter enjoys the pursuit as much as you enjoy being pursued. Whatever the label, one quality matters more than speed or strength: they stop the instant you signal, every time.
